Nervous for a family session? This post is for you.

Our society has long upheld the white, heteronormative family as the ideal of “the American family,” but that concept is tired, outdated and false (also boring!).

Families come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and it’s important to me that all families feel visible and celebrated, no matter their structure. In my business and in my life, single parent families are just as valuable as two-parent or multi-

parent families. Same-sex parents are honored in the same way our society honors heterosexual parents. BIPOC families matter.

It’s so true that families are built with love. Love is made visible in shared smiles, in clasped hands, in little heads resting on big shoulders.

In-Home Maternity Session / Portland, Oregon Maternity Photographer

I love documenting pregnant mamas with their children. This in-home family and maternity session has the sweetest daughters, and they are on the verge of meeting their new baby brother. I love knowing that when they look back on these photos in years to come, they will see how they looked before their brother came and their worlds changed. I am sure eventually it will be hard to remember life without the new addition.
